As Ford is revamping its F-150 raptor pickup to woo off-road pickup lovers and Nissan is readying its Titan warrior Concept for production, can Toyota sit idle! The Japanese carmaker is bringing back the TRD Pro version to its midsized pickup lineup Tacoma for 2018. The exterior styling and cabin design has been tweaked in this version.
2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro – Exterior Body Styles and Interior Changes
There is no denying the rugged and macho styling of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. It will be sold in three exciting hues- Barcelona Red Metallic, Cement and Super White. The model will get 16-inch black-alloy wheels and All-Terrain ready Kevlar-reinforced tires.
It also gets aluminum TRD Pro front skid plate, projector-beam headlights and black bezels, LED fog lights, Led DRL, taillights with black bezels. There are several exterior TRD Pro badging to make it stand out from standard Tacoma models. Even the front grille gets a special design with color-keyed surround and there is raised hood scoop with graphics.
The interior is all blacked out in standard setup. The cabin can accommodate 5 adults without hassles. However, tall passengers may feel the cabin a bit cramped, more so if they are at back seat row. The interior also gets enough visual elements to remind you that it is a special trim in Tacoma lineup! You get black leather front seats which have TRD Pro logos embossed on headrests and embossed floor mats.
The steering wheel is leather-trimmed too. There is heating available for front seas. The dashboard has some analog instruments and a color 4.2-inch Multi-Information Display. Inclusion of a GoPro video camera mount placed on the windshield is a nice touch.

The 2018 Tacoma TRD Pro gets a beefy engine under its hood. A 3.5-liter V-6 engine gets clubbed with a six-speed manual transmission unit. It generates 278 hp. But you can opt for an automatic transmission gearbox too. The Manual transmission enabled model gets Active Traction Control to tackle rough terrains and does a nice job of it.
Automatic gearbox enabled models get Crawl Control system of Toyota. TRD Pro also gets equipped with Toyota Multi-terrain Select setup. It includes five driver-selectable modes. Automatic transmission models also get Hill Start Assist. When laden with the V-6 tow package, 2018 Tacoma TRD Pro can tow up to 6,400 pounds. The cabin does not let much outside noise seep in.
The 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro scores pretty well in amenities and safety departments. It gets latest version of Toyota’s Entune infotainment setup with premium audio system. That is nice but the e4xpoerience is not exactly on par with GM’s IntelliLink setup. Navigation is also there and you get Bluetooth and App Suite. Safety features include airbags, wide-view backup camera, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, blind-spot monitor and rear parking assist. Those who want to tow luggage a lot should opt for the V-6 towing package which includes Trailer-Sway Control.
