There are several car makers launching enticing models but not all of them can have a timeless and iconic image. That is true of Land Rover Defender. The Defender is a versatile and rugged vehicle that has sold in huge numbers across the world and has an impressive history of serving in armies and rescue missions. While JLR has introduced several variations of the iconic vehicle over the decades, a pickup truck is the newest to join the lineup. As confirmed by company sources, the upcoming 2019 Land Rover Defender Pickup will have a new and enticing body style. It will be made on regular and luxurious trims. The pickup, when launched will lock horns with niche category contenders like the VW Amarok.
2019 Land Rover Defender Pickup – Appearance of Exterior and Interior
The company showcased DC 100 Concept earlier and the upcoming 2019 Land Rover Defender Pickup will be based on that model. This pickup variant will be launched after JLR revamps the existing Defender line up with coupe, regular and soft top variants. In true Land Rover style, the boxy rectangular shape will be retained for the pickup. The pickup will have a crew-cab set up with cabin equipped to seat 4 to 5 adults, as per the sources.
The body will be ruggedly built with top notch features to battle rough terrains, just like the original model. The body styles may have three types- Defender 90, 110 and 130. The model will be sold in a few solid exterior hues. The cabin of upcoming 2019 Land Rover Defender Pickup may not be laden with luxury but it is likely to be focused on utility. So, a few small item storage options will be there. Tinted glass and rubber floor mats are expected.
2019 Land Rover Defender Pickup – Modifications in the Engine
The upcoming 2019 Land Rover Defender Pickup is likely to be powered by a 2.2-liter diesel engine though its output is not known. It is likely to be clubbed with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission gearbox. However, gasoline based power trains cannot be ruled out as well. In LR style, the model will get laden with Permanent four wheel drive. The suspension and chassis will be made suitable for off roading as well.
The Land Rover Defender pickup is likely to be equipped with top safety features. It will get airbags, Anti-lock Braking System, Dynamic Stability Control and Electric Traction Control. JLR may offer collision avoidance technologies as optional extras, at added cost.
The Land Rover Defender 2019 may not get a lot of amenities, given it’s off road centric nature. However, JLR may still pack in some basic amenities like climate control, heated seats, updated infotainment setup and leather seating. However, some of these may be offered as options. Heavy duty steel wheels and all terrain ready tires are likely to be used in the model. Land Rover may also offer a few luxurious features in selected edition models but those will be manufactured and unveiled later.
2019 Land Rover Defender Pickup – Expected Date of Arrival and Price
JLR has not said anything officially on the price of upcoming 2019 LR Defender Pickup. It is expected to be unveiled at last quarter of 2018. It will be available in the USA and some other markets. The 2019 Land Rover Defender Pickup is an interesting vehicle for the iconic British brand, for sure.
Defender is known for its impressive off road capability and durability over the world. Now, launching pickup based on the platform is a good idea given the fact most luxury brands including Mercedes Benz are taking the same path. A lot of things are still unclear about the upcoming model. If the model is priced reasonably, it can take on off-road centric luxury Pickups quite well.
